An Evening with Hapa is a special benefit concert for the Ashland Schools Foundation featuring the extraordinary guitar and vocal talents of the Hawaiian super-group Hapa, whom the New York Times calls "...the most successful Hawaiian music group in recent history." Both critically acclaimed and publicly adored, Hapa is recognized as the best selling music group in the history of Hawaiian music, beginning in 1994 when their self-titled debut CD swept the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards (Hawaii's equivalent of the Grammy's). Hapa played to a sold out Ashland audience in 2006 as part of the One World Series at the SOU Recital Hall. Hapa will take the stage at 7:30PM and doors will open at 7PM. Ashland's own Hula Hui (hula school), Ka Pi‘o O Ke Anuenue, will perform with Hapa for the beautiful song Ku‘u Home O Kahalu‘u. The Ashland Schools Foundation is a 501(c)(3), non-profit public benefit corporation, organized exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. Our mission is to support quality education in the Ashland public schools through fundraising in the community. Ka Pi‘o O Ke Anuenue is a hula hui whose mission is to explore through hula what unites us in a universal vision and expression of aloha. Ka P‘io O Ke Anuenue, "the arch of the rainbow", represents the bridging of cultures and time, honoring tradition while moving forward (imua) with hula as a living art form that evolves and grows as we do. Students learn about the history, spirituality, legends, and cultural values of Hawai‘i while learning kahiko (ancient) and ‘auana (modern) dances. Classes are taught in a supportive and encouraging environment, with an emphasis on cultivating qualities of aloha. For more info, go to www.integraldance.com or call 541-324-6111. |
